Mom is 97 and going strong

Sunday, my mom, celebrated her 97th birthday. Can you imagine?

One of the things I love about my mom is her unwavering strength. She’s lived through nearly a century of change, challenge, and triumph, yet she’s never lost her kindness or her optimism. She’s the kind of person who makes you feel special just by being in her presence. Her stories, full of wisdom and humor, remind us of the values she’s instilled in us: integrity, hard work, and the importance of family. Seeing her surrounded by my brothers and sisters, among others who love her, at her birthday celebration was a beautiful reminder of the legacy she’s built—a legacy rooted in love and unity.

There of course was birthday cake, candles, and I’m sure the most beautiful off key renditions of “Happy Birthday” as she blew out the candles on her cake. To have my mom still with us, in such remarkable health and spirits, is a blessing beyond words. She’s not just a mother to me; she’s my teacher, cheerleader, guide, and comedic mentor. Watching her thrive at 97 is a testament to the power of a life lived with purpose and love.

I could go on and on and on about the stories, the love, the sacrifices she’s made, what she’s done for others, communities, organizations, friends, family, and lives she has changed, but let me just say…she’s pretty cool, and you would love her as much as I do if you ever got the chance to meet her.
